Attendance

Our target for attendance has been set at 95% for the academic year 2010/11.  To date, attendance, in particular in year groups, is low.  Of course your child should not be in school when unwell but please make every effort to have them in school as frequently as possible.  If you find your son/daughter ‘recovers’ during the day, please bring them into school at either morning break time, 10.30am or after lunch, 1pm.  We may be able to offer support to any family who has transport difficulties. Days lost in the Primary phase do have an effect on grades achieved in High School at GCSE level.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Uniform

It is useful to be reminded of our agreed school uniform.  I hope you find the list useful.

Please be reminded that if a family is experiencing difficulties, you may be eligible to acquire uniform through the Opportunities Fund. (Please speak to Mrs. Davis.  Details are dealt with in the strictest confidence).

 School Uniform

 Nursery

Our Nursery children need to wear a white polo shirt and skirt or trousers (not jeans please), school sweatshirt/cardigan

Reception > Year 6

Boys                                                    Girls

White shirt long or short sleeved       White blouse long or short sleeved

Tie                                                                    Tie

Grey trousers/long or short                Grey/navy skirt

Navy sweatshirt with logo                    Navy sweatshirt or cardigan with logo

Black shoes                                                Black/navy shoes

Sky blue polo shirt for P.E.                  Navy trousers optional in winter

Navy shorts for P.E.                             Blue/white check summer dress

Rucksack                                             Sky blue polo shirt for P.E.

Ski hat-winter with logo available      Navy shorts for P.E.

Sun hat-summer with logo available Rucksack

                                                            Ski hat-winter with logo available

                                                            Sun hat-summer with logo available

Our school uniform is compulsory.  With the younger children, we would appreciate it if you can plan their clothing so that they can dress themselves with the minimum of help.  Elasticated skirts, trousers and ties are recommended as it is easy for them to manage.  Dark shoes should be worn, no trainers or sports shoes, flat shoes for girls.  For very young children who cannot buckle their shoes or tie laces, shoes with Velcro fastenings are a good idea.  For girls, longer hair should be tied back.

Please remember to mark all clothing with your child’s name.

Jewellery

Children are asked not to wear jewellery in school as items can easily be lost and some can be dangerous, especially during P.E. lessons.

Make Up

No make up (including nail varnish) should be worn.

 Staffing

As you are aware, I am retiring at the end of the Autumn Term, December 2011.

Due to the difficulty in recruiting Head Teachers, I gave the Governors ample time to appoint my successor.

The post has been advertised and Governors will be looking at applications early this half term and interviewing suitable candidates later in the half term.  You will, of course, be kept informed.

 Year 1 Teacher

We have appointed Miss Zoe Parke to lead our Year 1 class in September 2011.  She will be in school on transition day to meet her class.

Breakfast Club/After School Club Staff

Miss Bilyard sadly left us at half term to take up a well earned full time post.  We wish her every success and are grateful for all she has given to Homefield School.

Mrs. Ashington has decided to relinquish her After School Club post at the end of the Summer Term.  She will continue with her support assistant post in school.  She has been one of the pioneers of our After School Club and has worked extremely hard as joint manager since it began.  Whilst I appreciate why she is stepping down, she will be greatly missed.  Thank you Mrs. Ashington.

From September 2011 we will need an After School Club assistant for Monday/Wednesday evenings.  There is a possibility further evenings will be available.  If you are interested in this position, please ask for an application form from the office.

Interactive Whiteboard

A BIG THANK YOU to all parents and in particular to The Friends of Homefield School who have organised events to raise money for the projector and interactive whiteboard.  Over the half term holiday these were installed.  Sincere thanks to Chris Trilsbach, our technician, and Jonathan Earle, parent and Chair of Governors.

Without the support and help everyone gives the school, we would not benefit from such a resource.

Thank you to all.

Maths Lessons

You have received a separate letter inviting you to participate in your child’s maths lesson either Wednesday (9.05 – 10.05 for Years 3-6) or Thursday (9.05 – 10.05 Years N-2).  We look forward to seeing you.

Advertisements

If you would like to advertise any items you have for sale, please pass details to Mrs. James by the 28th of each month.  We do ask for, as a result of a sale, a donation to our school funds.

Thank you.

School lunches

The school has decided with other schools in the cluster, to go out to tender for a new catering company.  We are looking to start with the appointed company after October 2011 half term.  We are certain that better quality, choice, presentation and price will be possible.  The school will keep you updated.

Top Trump final

On Saturday May 29th, Kyami Manthorpe, accompanied by her mum, nanny and Miss Bond, travelled to London Science Museum to take part in National Schools Top Trumps Competition.  Further details will follow.

Well done Kyami.

Football Fantasy League

Our first season in the Football Fantasy League has just finished.  The winners in each year group were:

            Reception        Tyler Mays

            Year 1              Jake Buckley

            Year 2              Joe Corby

            Year 3              Joshua Tucker

            Year 4              Grace Monk

            Year 5              Atlanta Jarvis

            Year 6              Ben Chilvers

Miss Bond came third over all, Atlanta came second and the winner was Mr. Ashman!   This season has been lots of fun and next year should be even better.

Homefield School News

Welcome back after the Easter break and bank holiday weekend.

This is an extremely busy period in school

Assessments for all year groups take place in May so it is important for your child to be in school unless, of course, they are ill.

Our Year 6 pupils will be sitting the Key Stage 2 SATs next week.  We wish them well.  They have been working particularly hard and as a reward will be visiting Bewilderwood on Friday 13th May.

Our Year 2 pupils will be sitting the Key Stage 1 SATs.  The result of these tests form part of their teacher assessment.

Years 3, 4 and 5 will be taking the tests which also form part of their teacher assessment.

 Staffing

We are currently advertising for a Year 1 teacher for September 2011 as Mrs. Denny decided not to return after her maternity leave.  We shall inform the children and parents if an appointment is made by half term.

The advert for the new Head Teacher has been placed and interviews take place later this term.

We welcome Chris Trilsbach, who has joined us as our ICT Technician.

 50th Anniversary

We are holding a meeting on Wednesday May 18th at 2.30pm for anyone who would like to be involved in helping to plan the events for this celebration.  A full programme of events will be circulated shortly.

We are trying to find a group/band to play/sing 60’s music on Thursday July 21st.  If you could pass any details of such a group to Mrs. Davis, it would be much appreciated.

Breakfast Club

If you are dropping your child at school for breakfast club, please could you be aware that staff are driving into the parking area at the same time.  Thank you for your co-operation.

Homefield School News

Welcome back and a Happy New Year.  We hope you had an enjoyable break with your children.  The weather was certainly a challenge for us all.

Kitchen

Mrs. Hadden is now back in her refurbished kitchen.  A big thank you needs to be voiced to her and her kitchen assistants for the continued high quality lunches they cooked and served whilst posted ‘off site’.  The children enjoyed a lovely Christmas lunch.

Dinner Money

We will not be able to provide a cooked lunch for your child unless it is paid for in advance.  Please send dinner money for the week, each Monday, in an envelope marked with your child’s name, class and days lunch is required.  Thank you for your co-operation .

Staff

Mrs. Jones will be leaving to begin her maternity leave on January 14th.  We hope she continues to keep well in the final weeks of her pregnancy and look forward to meeting her baby.

Mrs. Routledge will be taking over from Mrs. Jones and will be in school full time from January 17th to lead class RJ.

Session Times

Please ensure that your child is ready to enter school at 8.40am each day.  The bell is rung at this time and class teachers/classroom assistants collect the children from the playground.

If it is wet/snowing, the doors are opened slightly earlier and children enter directly into school.

Registration is at 8.45am.

 Contact numbers

It is essential please to keep the school informed of any change in telephone numbers.  There may be occasion when we need to contact you urgently.  Messages are sent via the school texting service, and therefore, current numbers are necessary if you are going to receive them. Thank you.

Clubs

All after school activities will begin week beginning January 10th.

 After School Club/Breakfast Club

Sessions begin on January 5th.  Thank you for your continued support.  Please book and pay for places in advance.

            Breakfast Club –      £1.75             Opens 8am

            After School Club   £6.00             Full session 3.10 – 5.45pm

                                                £3.75             Half session 3.10 – 4.30pm.

 Stage 2 Sats

As this is the first year we have Year 6 pupils, it will be useful for the parents/carers to be informed about the impending statutory tests the children will be undertaking.  We are inviting these parents to join us for a meeting in January, details to follow.  Key Stage 2 National Curriculum tests will be held from Monday May 9th – Friday May 13th and it is essential that your child is in school each day that week.  The Key Stage 2 tests are designed to test your child’s knowledge and understanding of specific elements of the Key Stage 2 curriculum.  They participate in tests in English and mathematics.

The children are being given opportunities of preparation for aspects of the tests that are unfamiliar to them for example:

                        Layout

Completing work within a time limit

It is important that we all work together to ensure each child reaches their potential and we appreciate your co-operation and support.

Uniform

Please ensure your child’s clothing is named.  We have an abundance of lost property, all of which is unnamed.

Ties should be worn each day

Tights should be navy or grey

Jewellery should not be worn

Thank you.

If you need any financial assistance towards the cost of uniform, you may qualify for a grant.  Please enquire via the office.  All claims are dealt with in the strictest confidence.

Greenhouse/Shed

A big thank you to Mr. Corby and Mr. Whiley for erecting the greenhouse.  The Gardening Club has been a great success and this will enhance our future projects.

Thank you also to Mr. Earle for demolishing our outdoor P.E. shed. We have ordered a replacement which will be delivered next week.
